VEHICLE CLOCKING

The clocking of mileage recorders still goes on, the main reason being to obtain a better selling price for a secondhand car.

Suspicion was aroused when the steering rack was leaking fluid and making worrying noises. The engine was using excessive oil. The interior trim was the worse for wear.

Removal of the instrument panel revealed a whole series of pointers that the speedometer had been tampered with. When the unit was opened up the condition of the securing screws confirmed that the speedometer head had been taken out and tampered with.
